By Ben, on August 23rd, 2009 We bought a PS3 nearly a year ago and in all that time I’ve been trying to find a game that would get Oui interested in it. Even Little Big Planet wasn’t able to penetrate his ambivalence, but last night I found the game.
While he and I were looking through the PSN his reluctance to buy anything was decieving, in reality derived from his inherent cheapness, but when it was downloaded he was transfixed. His hands wrapped around the controller in a death-grip only hardcore gamers would recognise, his eyes fixed on the screen, his face constantly transitioning between intense concentration to intense effort.
The game?
 Marvel vs Capcom 2 HD
Watching him with the controller makes me concerned that he’s going to break it so I try not to watch, but I did manage to walk myself off a cliff in WoW while watching the game. Funilly enough he seems to have come around to the idea of buying a second controller now too, even though I’ve explicitly stated that there is no way I’m going to play it with him. He’s got his eye on Super Puzzle Fighter HD next.
Oh, and for a HD remake Marvel vs Capcom 2 HD looks shit. You can tell they barely put any effort into it.
By Ben, on August 22nd, 2009 World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Oui: Who’s Deathwing?
By Ben, on August 18th, 2009 Back in the old days, when dial-up was king. When the cool kids hung out on BBS’s and online child predators were just a twinkle in politicians eyes. Where the internet was that thing used by the US military for some thing or other. When the content of a 100KB file had to be extremely compelling to justify the time it would take to download it (it was usually porn). I was on a 2400 baud modem.
I was cool and hip (to myself) and the internet ruined everything.
By Ben, on August 18th, 2009 I am so desperate to get my hands on Katamari Forever, the new Katamari game coming to PS3 to be released in the US on September 22nd. The previous games on the PS2 were awesome and if the game is exactly the same on PS3 I will be happy. I don’t care what it is, I just want to roll stuff up.
By Ben, on August 17th, 2009 What do you get when you mix a Death Knight with 50 mounts?
By Ben, on August 17th, 2009 You may have noticed that I’ve changed the theme on the site, what do you guys think? Somehow in the process of switching I’ve lost my profile pic… can’t recall if I actually had one with any certainty but I think I did and even if I wanted to put one up again I can’t remember where in the options to set it.
I’m painfully surviving through the dearth of good television to download at the moment with Lost, Heroes and Fringe all on hiatus, and Battlestar Galactica over :( I downloaded the pilot for Caprica and it looked ok… maybe there’s some promise there. I really like Eric Stolz because he was in a movie about vikings that I liked fromwhen I was a kid. Maybe it wasn’t even him though because I can’t remember that far back too clearly. I’m currently watching the second season of True Blood, mainly because I can’t find anything else worth watching. True Blood in season 2 is far superior to season 1, yet the over-abundance of sex remains.
Anyway, I’ve heard Torchwood is good, should I grab it? Any other suggestions?
PS Maybe I have altzheimers since there are lots of things I can’t remember on this post.
By Ben, on August 17th, 2009 Since Kevin threw down the gauntlet I have been hard at work on getting achievements and what a weekend I’ve had on them!
I got myself exalted with Argent Crusade, also netting me the achievement for being exalted with Argent Dawn and the one for being exalted with the major Northrend factions. I finished the Argent Tournament quests for the Orcs (netting me two achievements because I am also exalted with them), moving onto the final: the Trolls. Then I downed the bosses available in the 10-man Trial of Champions and also General Vezax in 10-man Ulduar for the first time (no achievements for that unfortunately). After that Oui reminded me that you can purchase a mount from Wyrmrest Accord if you’re exalted so I also got my 50th mount and my albino drake!
That was Saturday and we even went to the gym that day, so I was having a productive day!
Here’s the list so far:
- The Argent Crusade
- The Argent Champion
- Northrend Vanguard
- Champion of Orgrimmar
- Exalted Champion of Orgrimmar
- Leading the Cavalry
We were sort of lucky to get General Vezax down since the instance servers were restarted 45 second after we killed (and looted) him. Too close for comfort though.
Sunday was also productive.
- In His House He Waits Dreaming
- Drive me Crazy
- The Descent into Madness
- The Secrets of Ulduar
- There’s Gold in That There Fountain
- The Coin Master
This was my first time seeing the Yogg-Saron encounter so it was very nerve wracking. I suspect that most other groups get stuck on the second phase because it’s sorta tricky. We actually spent so much time on it that by the time we got to the third phase I had completely forgotten what would happen and what I was supposed to be doing so I stuck with the tank and helped him kill the adds. During our multiple attempts I was also switched from being a person who helped with the tentacles to a person who went inside and killed his brain (and yes, I know that sounds a little unusual).
Virtual high-fives were shared and there was much rejoicing. We then went and did The Iron Council and Ignis because we’d forgotten to do them before and out of both nights I got a very nice cloak off the last boss we killed on Sunday (Ignis). I am very, very happy with the cloak, but even more pleased with what we achieved.
To top it all off Oui was in the other 10-man group attempting to down Yogg-Saron for the first time, but they were not so successful. I enjoyed using this point as the reason for everything and anything for the rest of the night :)
By Ben, on August 14th, 2009 One of my regular sayings is “If something’s important, you make the time” and I’ve never really thought about it beyond the surface until today when I once again had to tell someone that unless they sent me some info the updates they wanted would not happen.
His regular excuse is that he’s just too busy to send me the info I need and he is a busy guy so I appreciate that it can be hard to find the time, but when he constantly bugs me about updating the system knowing full well that such updates cannot occur until he gives me the info I need it I get extremely irritated.
After I got off the phone from hearing today’s excuse (and I’ve already been waiting two months) I thought of my saying and considered that if he hasn’t managed to make the time by now then it obviously isn’t very important to him.
By Ben, on July 31st, 2009 While Oui isn’t as obsessed about WoW achievements, he still manages to get a few without try – especially PvP achievements.

By Ben, on July 26th, 2009 As we were going to lunch today I asked Oui “What’s the ettiquette for pulling your undies out of your arse in public?”, the reason for which is self explanatory. He unfortunately didn’t have an answer for me but I was later surprised that neither did Mr/Ms Know-it-all Google. Maybe I was too specific with my search terms (‘pulling your undies out of your arse in public ettiquette’)…
Anyway, I open the floor to the illustrious readers of my blog: please educate the uninformed. May your comments live on to inform future generations via Google.
