Fringe
TV Updates
Oct 19th
I haven’t posted about my television viewing lately, so here’s an update:
Fringe
Remains awesome and loving every moment. Everything seems to be heading to Peter finding out he is actually from an alternate universe and that Walter kidnapped him. I really like that they don’t mess about in this show. Other shows feel like they are dragging the story out because there isn’t much of it to go around, but Fringe feels like they are desparetely trying to fit as much in as possible.
Heroes
Someone wake me up when this becomes interesting. I’m only still watching in the vain hope that things will turn around and the show will be good once more. The story is proceeding at an absolute snails pace so far. At least we’re past the requisite lesbian kiss.
Flash Forward
The premise is interesting, but I can’t shake the feeling that it will end up being lame. This show is also an extremely slow mover. I’m sort of irritated that they’re dwelling so much on the individual character stories rather than exploring the shows mythos more.
Stargate Universe
I’m trying to like this, but the snails-pace story progress and the characters aren’t making it easy. The whole stargate premise is already a stretch, but some chubby ‘MIT drop-out’ being recruited to save them all is pushing it. It also doesn’t help that the show has many parallels to Stargate Atlantis which started promising but devolved into complete rubbish.
Fringe is F’in Awesome
May 8th
The last few episodes of Fringe have felt like they were building to something and this weeks episode was no different, yet more so. I am now fully invested in Fringe, which is good because I needed something to replace Heroes (I liked that Sylar didn’t waste anytime killing Nathan and enjoyed his death throes though).
I have a question about Agent Dunham’s universe shifting thingy though. Is she shifting and replacing the Agent Dunham in that universe or is she shifting and creating a new version of Agent Dunham in that universe? If she is replacing, what happens with the Agent Dunham from that universe? Does she shift to our universe? What if the Agent Dunham from the other universe is the one making the shifts happen and not the one in our universe?
So many questions! I really like that there is so much happening in Fringe, but one tiny niggle I have with this weeks episode was that when Walter was explaining that the head of Massive Dynamics couldn’t possibly be behind ZFT why didn’t anyone mention the only and obvious alternative, ie that it is Walter. I mean, are they stupid or not Vulcan?
Seriously though, with an ending like we had this week, who in their right mind would not want to tune in next week?
I am Noble, and Stuff
Apr 26th
I really enjoyed the Noblegarden event this year. I refer to it in the past tense as I am now titled-up and done. Now for Children’s Week.
I should really stay away from spoiler sites but this weeks season 3 finale for Heroes is supposed to… well, I won’t say.
As I’ve already mentioned, Heroes has been lacking this season for me. It has felt like the show has been meandering from plot point to plot point to some kind of conclusion, though I’m not certain I will care by the time it arrives. Where previous seasons have dealt with character crises in multi-episode arcs, this season has dispensed with that and taken the easier (ie shittier) route of:
Last week he was loving shape shifting, this week he has an identity crisis
Now his ex-wife is back, lucky we killed off the fling
and such stuff.
Even worse is that they’ve got characters revisiting emotional plot points that have already been used (to death). Hello? Haven’t we been here already? I honestly can’t imagine how the show could possibly be rescued from the pit of mediocrity it has dug itself into.
Lost on the other hand, I simply cannot wait to see this weeks episode with Faraday back I presume a lot of things are about to happen. Actually, I kinda know what it is already (damn spoiler sites tempting me) but the knowing hasn’t reduced my excitement.
I’ve finally figured out what it is about Fringe that I might not like. It reminds me of X-files in that each week you never know if you’ll be seeing something that matters to the overall story or some pointless side-thing. I hope this weeks episode doesn’t go off on some unrelated tangent.
