In the evening a few days ago I received a phone call where the person asked for me and then put me on hold for two minutes. As I didn't know who was calling me I considered hanging up, but they came back before I could decide.
It was Citibank calling yet again about my credit card application. The woman wanted to confirm the details of my application, despite the fact that I had already confirmed it all (after writing it on the application form) the first time they called me. That wasn't the stupid part though.
Her: I see your home address is the same as your work address, is that correct?
Me: Yes, I live upstairs from my office.
Her: Ok, so would you like your bill sent to your home or office address?
(pause)
Me: They're the same, I don't think it matters.
Yesterday morning I had a fascinating dream. In it I came upon myself when I was a kid and I remember older me (ie the me I was in the dream) apprehensive about talking to him because... I don't know why actually. Maybe I was worried about breaking the space/time continuum or some such thing. We weren't alone either, I recall there being lots of other people. My mum was there too and she knew who old and young me were.
Anyway, young me noticed old me. He talked to my mum and wanted to know who I was, then came over to talk to me. I can't recall most of what he said, except that he told me he had watched Star Trek: Lost Planets on television last night (I have no idea what Star Trek: Lost Planets is, or if it even exists). I recall old me thinking 'oh my god, this is so typical of me' when he mentioned star trek.
This entire dream occured in the space of five minutes in the morning after Oui woke me up and I finally got up to iron his shirt for work. Isn't the mind an amazing thing?
It would probably help if I gave anonymous users access to post comments huh? Surely you didn't think I expected anyone who wanted to comment to register! Even I hate visiting a site that expects you to register to comment, because in my opinion that is one sure-fire way to get people not to comment. If anyone tried to register they would have discovered that I disabled it anyway.
I'm a huge lover of Waltzing Matilda, which teaches that if you get caught stealing a sheep suicide is the only option.
The version on the right is sung by John Williamson, a popular country singer in Australia, and features images which are supposedly very Australian. I have to confess I really enjoy this version and even back in the old days when I played trumpet in my various ensembles the song was always a favourite.
I recently installed a captcha module but just dumped it as I found that someone created a module to integrate the Akismet anti-spam service from Wordpress.com (my old home). I always hated those stupid captchas anyway.
I'll also be making the login thingummy on the left go away in a moment and adding some menu options that only I care about, yet make more space for content that is coming one day (I promise).
Last friday evening I ordered World of Warcraft and The Burning Crusade from topshop.com.au for my brother. I specifically selected them because both he and they are in Australia but grew concerned when I saw that my order has not shipped by last night, so I email them. The response from them today was that due to the credit card being from a 3rd party (it was Oui's as I don't have one) the order was on hold and they needed local contact details. I get that they would find it curious, but if they allow that kind of thing it can't be too uncommon. The thing that shits me the most is that they waited for me to contacted them instead of being proactive and calling me. Maybe I'm only incensed because I'm waiting to play WoW with my brother.
I love the PNG format and since both firefox and Internet Explorer 7 support it I figure it's safe to use it everywhere. The problem was that the files are naturally quite big compared to their JPG and GIF brothers/sisters. Enter PNGOUT. This handy, tiny utility will do something or other to your PNG files that in most cases will dramatically decrease their size without any decrease in image quality at all! Amazing huh? I had one image compress to 13% of it's original size! Unfortunately the easy-to-use windows version of PNGOUT that has batch processing costs money, but at least the command-line version is free.
I've just come across one rather irritating thing about Drupal - the default .htaccess. The default .htaccess won't allow access to any subfolders or to any file other than index.php. In a situation like mine, where addon domains are put in subdirectories to your main site and your main site is running drupal, this would cause them to be completely inaccessible. They won't even respond to a ping. It's all fixed now though it was quite irritating at the time.
After I responded to the email I received from Topshop that I mentioned before I'd hoped to receive an email back quickly, but I forgot about the email lag businesses seem to have where they're only capable of dealing with one email enquiry per day with any revisiting of the topic occuring at least 24 hours later. Now I'm moving into day two since their reply and am yet to hear anything back, while my order remains on the invisible status of 'hold' (ie there is no indication on the customer end that such a status occurs or even exists). I emailed them this morning cutting straight to the chase, tell them to just say if they can handle the order or not so that we (my false pretence of being nice) wouldn't waste any further time on it and I could find someone else who could. Still no response though. I would cancel the thing now, except for the simple fact that there is no way for me to do so on their website. I will be mailing them to tell them to go fuck themselves and they can forget about my order tomorrow morning, in other words though.
I originally disabled the subject field for comments, but now that it's posted it looks a little strange so it's back on. My plan is to remove the comment subject, but I haven't started on my theme yet so it's going to have to wait. I've also enabled threaded comments, which allow you to respond to specific comments by clicking reply on the respective comment.
