Creepies, Crawlies, and Hoppies

After the gym last night Oui and I were greeted by a huge toad sitting at our front door and despite Oui’s screams that I should kill it, even though I would be too terrified to get close were I inclined to kill it, I managed to scare it away and quickly get inside in the fear that it might want to follow us in. If it had gotten inside we’d have really been in trouble!

It reminded me of the time there was a huge spider on the back of my front door years ago and I’d been too terrified to leave the house even by the back door, because then it could be anywhere! I’d contemplated calling work to tell them I couldn’t come today, but canned that idea because I didn’t know how to explain that it was because their was a massive spider on the back of my front door.

Then there was the time my ex had been chasing me around the house with a spider he’d caught in a jar which he eventually let out just outside our back door to my cries of anger/fear, complaining that it would just come back and kill me now.

For reference, Oui has a deathly fear of rats of which there is an abundance in Bangkok. I enjoy seeing his reaction after telling him I saw a rat in various places near him (or nowhere near him). He thinks rats are disgusting and when he saw pictures of friends of ours with their friends pet rat on their shoulder I think he nearly passed out.

My ex fears frogs because when he was a kid one had somehow gotten into his pants, which in retrospect isn’t really that difficult a feat.

my mum is so scared of frogs that she will go around to the back door if need be to get in the house. or get a large large stick (because WHO KNOWS WHICH DIRECTION IT WILL JUMP). Comes from growing up with a dunny (outdoor loo) which had many many frogs in it, apparently. It would be kind of icky to have a frog jump up when you’re busy doing your business.

And here I was thinking frog-fear was uncommon because my grandmother had an unhealthy obsession with them.

This summer I was watering the pot plants outside when I realised I was pouring water over a frog in a pot plant… it made me scream, especially when it jumped out.

In Bangkok, I used to squeal at cockroaches that used to scurry across the pavements and I’ll never forget the day Kevin and I were sitting at our desk playing wow and Kevin screamed when he noticed one climbing his t-shirt… still makes me laugh now, hehe.

Was it one of those cute green frogs or a really ugly toad like the one we saw?

Also, Just between you and me… did he scream like a girl?

    RAWR.

    Hehehehe… it was like a GIRL ;)

I wouldn’t say it was cute, but it wasn’t ugly either. Just toad like. Probably much smaller than what you saw.
