While Oui isn’t as obsessed about WoW achievements, he still manages to get a few without try – especially PvP achievements.

Google Doesn’t Know All
Jul 26th
As we were going to lunch today I asked Oui “What’s the ettiquette for pulling your undies out of your arse in public?”, the reason for which is self explanatory. He unfortunately didn’t have an answer for me but I was later surprised that neither did Mr/Ms Know-it-all Google. Maybe I was too specific with my search terms (‘pulling your undies out of your arse in public ettiquette’)…
Anyway, I open the floor to the illustrious readers of my blog: please educate the uninformed. May your comments live on to inform future generations via Google.
Need PS3 Game Choice Help!
Jul 21st
So I’m allowed to buy a PS3 game today (I might be able to wangle two), and need to know what is worth it. I already have Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Burnout Paradise.

Another Nail in The Ubercart Coffin
Jul 17th
After setting up a website for my mother, enabling her to accept orders for her small business I began to quite like Ubercart for its simplicity. One of the big things I like is the attributes system, where a product can have user-definable variations that can affect the price. There are limitations of course, but being free is a big bonus.
The only element of Ubercart that isn’t free is the time it will take to discover its limitations. With all its simplicity comes quite a lot of rigid inflexibility and today I have hit a point that goes to the very core of Ubercart: it lacks support for anything but discreet units for products (no decimals), lacks support for ordering by a specific unit of measure (UOM) and thus doesn’t have any kind of UOM conversion available.
I was in the planning stages of transitioning our company website to using Ubercart but now that I’ve discovered this particular weak point, using Ubercart in this case will be impossible. What is it about software that individual packages will include a single great feature but lack everything else I need? If only it were possible to take all those great features and make one super application… Why do developers tortue me so?
Is This Love?
Jul 14th
I’ve been watching True Blood, which consists of lost of sex, blood and various vampires and stuff, and while the first season was mostly ‘meh’ in the last episode a new character was introduced played by none other than Michelle Forbes!
I have a total geek-boner for Michelle Forbes because everything I’ve seen her in she’s been simply amazing. The following selection of her work should help to illustrate the epic proportions of my adoration for her:
| Year | Title | Character |
|---|---|---|
| 1991-1994 | Star Trek: The Next Generation | Ensign Ro Laren |
| 1994 | Seinfeld | Julie |
| 2002-2003 | 24 | Lynne Kresge |
| 2004 | Half-Life 2 | Dr. Judith Mossman |
| 2005 | Alias | Dr. Maggie Sinclair |
| 2005-2006 | Battlestar Galactica | Admiral Helena Cain |
| 2005-2006 | Prison Break | Samantha Brinker |
| 2006 | Half-Life 2: Episode One | Dr. Judith Mossman |
| 2007 | Half-Life 2: Episode Two | Dr. Judith Mossman |
| 2007 | Battlestar Galactica: Razor | Admiral Helena Cain |
| 2008 | Lost | Karen Decker |
| 2009 | The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena | Captain Gail Revas |
| 2008-2009 | True Blood | Maryann Forrester |
It’s a Beautiful Day
Jul 9th
When I looked from my desk out of the window this morning I was greeted with a rare sight – clear blue skies. I can count on my hand the number of times the sky has been blue in Bangkok, the last time being about 2 years ago, and I expect today will be particularly hot. Luckily the aircon in the computer room was repaired a couple of days ago so we should be able to ‘weather’ it.
In other news, Wordpress makes updating so bloody easy. The admin interface informed me today that there was an update to Wordpress available and gave the option to automatically install it or manually download it. The automatic install worked like a dream and was done in less than 10 seconds! Even better is that plugins for Wordpress can by updated in exactly the same way. If any updates had killed the site I wouldn’t be singing their praises though.
Many Drupal users yearn for updates to be as simple, but unfortunately the level of customisation performed on practically every single install of Drupal makes it impossible to perform any kind of automatic updates that could potentially destroy the entire site. If you’re using Drupal and haven’t customised your site, why are you using Drupal exactly?
