Star Trek

I have a bit of a backlog of posts  because of reasons that would probably take a post or two to explain, but suffice to say I saw the new Star Trek film and it was good, but a little too jokey. My biggest gripe, among a few of them, is that the story basically negates everything that has come before it.

I’ve seen story reboots before, but the basics have always remained the same. Batman always met with the joker, Superman always battled Lex Luther, etc. Not in this case though, everything that was is no longer necessarily the case (you’ll have to watch it to understand). A prime example is that any conflict involving Vulcans or Romulans ain’t happening anymore.

The acting was pretty good, though I honestly could have gone without one of the original cast showing their face. Isn’t it time they were put out to pasture? He sure looks like it’s time.

I am having mixed feelings – one the one hand, damn it looks like a great blockbuster movie but on the other… it doesn’t *quite* look like Trek, and Trek is something I think should have a definitive “feel” to it, but we’ll see, I think we are seeing it on Monday.

It’s definitely like no Star Trek before it, so I’ll be keen to hear what you guys think.

Well I really enjoyed it. Bones was great, it was all very entertaining. Sylar made a cool Spock but I did think that actually destorying Vulcan was a step too far, as was relying on “oh they are all from the future” as an escape goat.

Didn’t like Kirk, but didn’t expect to, from the trailers.

Overall though, yeah, a good re-imagining of the original I reckon – the right balance of references to the others (teleporting Archers beagle hehe) with the new stuff.

    Needed more jedi’s, though.

I thought Karl Urban was great as Bones too, but I’ve read many comments saying others thought he was crap.

Thing is, no matter what he does he still looks like he’s playing Eomer, from LOTR, just with a haircut!
